Sun Peaks Resort is not just a wintertime destination. It is a four seasons resort that offers something for everyone. Whether you are coming for the biking, hiking, golfing or pool time, summertime in Sun Peaks is our favourite season.
There are many different types of accommodations available in Sun Peaks, but nothing beats staying right in the heart of the village at Sun Peaks Grand Hotel. The location, amenities and restaurants are just a few of the many reasons why we choose to stay here during our summertime visits.
Our recent visit to Sun Peaks Resort was hosted by Sun Peaks Grand Hotel.
Location
Sun Peaks Grand Hotel sits right in the heart of the village and offers commanding views of the mountain. You don’t need to walk far to access the biking or hiking trails, and you simply need to step outside to explore the shops and boutiques that line the village way.
If you’d like to take in the stunning views of the mountain, you can reserve a mountainside room and relax on your balcony. During our stay, our deluxe room had a mountain view and we certainly took advantage of it.
Our boys enjoyed an after dinner dessert on our balcony. Later that evening after the boys were in bed, Andrew and I enjoyed a bottle of wine for some much needed adult time.
One of the best parts about the location of Sun Peaks Grand is that you can park your car at check-in and leave it there until check-out. Everything you need or want is right there. We loved our evening strolls through the village after dinner and walking outside after breakfast to the market on Sunday mornings.
Pool and Hot Tubs
You really can’t beat relaxing poolside with a stunning view of the mountains. The water is warm, the air is fresh and it is a great way to rest your muscles after a long day on the trails.
The pool wasn’t busy during our visit, so the boys were able to get a few cannonballs in and let loose a little bit after our bike hike. I happily relaxed in the warm water and tried not to get splashed!
Normally there would be three hot tubs available to guests. But the new COVID-19 rules have resulted in the hot tubs being closed for use. Luckily the pool water is heated and was so nice to enjoy in the mountain sunshine.
Rooms and Suites
There are many different types of rooms and accommodations within Sun Peaks Grand. The guest rooms are all recently renovated and offer a luxurious mountain lifestyle feel.
There are studio hotel rooms, which have all the necessities needed for a weekend or weeklong stay. We stayed in a deluxe guest room with two queen beds and a balcony with mountain view.
There are one or two bedroom suites that offer additional space to entertain or the luxury to spread out.
We have stayed in a one bedroom suite in the past, and it was nice to have the separation at bedtime so that Andrew and I could stay up later while the kids slept. Although during our weekend staycation we were so active during the day that we went to bed when our boys did!
There are apartment style suites in the Sun Peaks Grand Residences with kitchens, which are great for families. The kitchens are stocked to cook meals when you don’t feel like dining out, and there’s a fireplace to curl up next to with a book or nightcap to end the day.
We haven’t stayed in the Residences yet, but it would be perfect for an extended stay, having the flexibility to cook some meals ourselves or have some friends over for an evening of entertaining in the comfort of our suite.
Mantles and Morrisey’s Patio
One of the best parts of staying in a hotel means that you don’t have to cook! And the best part of summer dining is sitting outside on a patio. At Sun Peaks Grand Hotel, you have two patio options to choose from and we love them both equally but for totally different reasons.
Mantles Patio
There is no better way to enjoy a meal or beverage than on the Mantles patio. Situated right in the heart of the village, you can sit in the glorious sunshine and look out over the village or take in the mountain views.
We love having lunch on the Mantles patio or sipping on a glass of wine during happy hour. After our hike, we headed straight there for some soup and hot chocolate for the kids to warm up since it was a little cool at the top of the mountain during our visit.
The kids loved watching the bikers coming down from Progression Park, and I just loved soaking in the scenery. We saw a few friends cruise by on bikes during our lunch, so it’s also a great spot to people watch.
Morrisey’s Public House Patio
A village favourite, Morrisey’s patio offers a comfortable and casual atmosphere with good, old-fashioned pub style service.
The cozy seating on Morrisey’s patio with the table heaters are a big draw for us. The kids have room to relax and Morrisey’s famous nachos are a hit every time. The nachos come deconstructed now, which was a big hit with our youngest son, Heath, who devoured them in record time.
I love just sipping away on my aperol spritz and stealing bites of my older son’s poutine! Just remember that it is a popular spot and patio seating fills up quickly.
